“RETIRE THE DEBT” Party!!
When: Sunday, July 5, 2009 – anytime after 3 pm
Where: Steve and Guy’s – 2025 Corbett Dr., Las Cruces (Call 575-522-3675 or 575-571-2099 for more info or directions.)
What: Food and drink (soda, beer, wine) will be provided. If you want additional beverages, you should supply them. Swimming pool and hot tub available.
As you may know, when The Normal Heart / SW LGBT Press ceased print publication, it was left with a sizeable debt to the printing company (about $3400). The community here and in El Paso has been very supportive of this publication over the last 15 years, both in terms of financial support and volunteer help. We’re coming to you one last time, to help clear up this final printing debt.
We realize that not everyone is in a position to donate to this cause, but we do want everyone to come to the party. So, we are asking everyone to bring a canned good which will be donated to a local food pantry. Then be prepared to make whatever donation you can to help us pay off the printing debt of Normal Heart Community Ventures (NHCV). In addition, if you can make a donation of $50 or more, you will be listed as an NHCV sponsor on the website for a year, with a business card if you would like.
NHCV, by the way, continues as a New Mexico non-profit corporation, and continues to sponsor the NHCV website (www.nhcv.org) with an on-line version of the Southwest LGBT Press and a regularly-updated calendar and resource page, focusing on New Mexico and West Texas.
Guy and Steve invite you to join us for the party and help pay off the NHCV debt.

For over eighteen years a small but passionately dedicated group of volunteers has fought intolerance and homophobia by visibly providing news and information about and for the gay and lesbian community of New Mexico and West Texas through the Southwest LGBT Press (formerly The Normal Heart). We have made tremendous progress and New Mexico is now one of the friendliest states in the country to GLBT people.
Normal Heart Community Ventures now wants to use our experience to expand the GLBT community’s access to information. New Mexico and West Texas is a rural state and we cannot deliver our free publication everywhere. Our more isolated brothers and sisters need additional methods of access. We have the technology to reach out, we have people with the knowledge and skills to create podcasts, cable TV or radio programs. What we desparately need is your support and donations to make exciting new things happen. |
|
Normal Heart Community Ventures would use our educational and informational assets to impact important GLBT issues like substance abuse, domestic violence, suicide and HIV/AIDS. NHCV plans to create awareness programs of its own and collaborating with existing organizations to create the best results for New Mexico and West Texas.
We are a tiny non-profit with huge ideas and dreams. What would it mean for New Mexico and West Texas if we could bring together the GLBT organizations of the Southwest at a summit to learn best practices to apply here? This is just one of the big ideas we could make happen with your support.
As a community organization everything we have accomplished has been done by you, the community. You write and publish the oldest GLBT publication in New Mexico and West Texas, the only non-profit one. |

You will make the next generation Normal Heart Community Ventures a hugely impactful, grassroots community creating positive change
